Only in 2018, 228,000 people moved to EU countries from the Western Balkans, shows the data of the European Statistical Office (Eurostat).
51,000 people left Serbia to go to EU countries, which is 1.3% of the total population, and the most people emigrated to Germany (16,000), then to Slovenia (5,100) and to Croatia and Slovakia 4,900 emigrants in each country.
34,500 people moved away from Kosovo, which represents 2% of the citizens. The most citizens of Kosovo, last year, moved to Germany, almost 19,000, which is more than half of the emigrants, followed by Slovenia and Italy.
In the region, most people moved away from Albania according to the number of emigrants (62,000) and its share in the population (2.2%).
From Bosnia and Herzegovina (B-H), 53,500 citizens moved away, which is 1.5% of the population, and from North Macedonia 24,300 or 2.1% of the total population. 3,000 people moved away from Montenegro.
From Albania, most people moved to Italy (23,000), Greece (17,000) and Germany (10,000). From B-H the most citizens left for Germany (16,000), Slovenia and Croatia.
From North Macedonia most people moved to Germany (11,500), followed by Italy and Slovenia.
