Haradinaj Announces Agreement on Mutual Recognition, Vucic Denies It

Former Kosovo Prime Minister and the leader of Alliance for the Future of Kosovo Ramush Haradinaj announced a possibility of reaching a final agreement on mutual recognition between Serbia and Kosovo in existing borders at the meeting in Washington on September 2, but this option was discarded on the same day by Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic who said that he would not have to travel for the meeting for that.

Haradinaj said for the program of Radio Free Europe (RFE) in Albanian that Kosovo and Serbia should finally give an epilogue of the mutual dialogue, not just in terms of economic cooperation.

He added that the Kosovo delegation was going to the White House to get an agreement on mutual recognition because the European Union was slow.

Haradinaj gave an example of the promise that Kosovo would get visa liberalization if an agreement on demarcation of the border with Montenegro was achieved, but this did not happen three years later.

He emphasized that a diplomat Robert O’Brien had the necessary authority to mediate in such an agreement because he was a counselor for the national security of US President Donald Trump and he had the support of Ambassador Richard Grenell.

Vucic claims Haradinaj “will not see this movie”: Serbian President said that Haradinaj could immediately cancel his flight for Washington and give up on traveling if he expected that the final agreement with mutual recognition would be achieved in the USA.

“We are going to Washington to talk about the issues we have already discussed. We have no problem discussing any issue. And to talk about status and end it in accordance with their wishes, for them to get everything and we get nothing, so we can recognize them and then they will recognize us, that is a movie they will not see”, Vucic said for TV Pink.

Vucic said that there would be no recognition of Kosovo as long as he was “in full conscience”, and as long as he “can think rationally”.

On Thursday morning, the outgoing Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic, a bit surprisingly, said that it would be very good to start some political topics in the USA, while Pristina and Belgrade delegations were there.

Previously, similarly to Vucic, Dacic was saying that no other topics than the economy should be on the agenda in Washington.
