'Haradinaj Tax' costs Serbia 500 Million EUR Annually

By introducing Kosovo customs tariffs of 100 percent to Serbian commodities, the Serbian economy was damaged for more than 500 million Euros annually, vice-president of Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) Marko Djuric said on Thursday.

Djuric, also a director of Government’s Office for Kosovo, said at the party press conference that the statement of Kosovo President Hashim Thaci that damages from tariffs reached just several million Euros was not true.

“Efforts to diminish the damage in order to decrease the pressure Pristina was suffering from the part of the international community were nothing else but twisting the reality and untrue presentation of facts”, Djuric said.

Kosovo authorities should offer a response to the question of who was responsible for the illegal import of Serbian commodities to Kosovo, which was mentioned by Thaci.

“Since Thaci has mentioned smuggling channels, which do exist, it is necessary that some authority, either from [Kosovo authorities] or other states taking part in such activities in the surroundings, should offer a response to the question who enables smuggling of huge quantity of commodities to [Kosovo] via the territory of North Macedonia and whose companies, close to politicians in Kosovo, have been the main profit-makers from anti-civilization tariffs against Serbian commodities”, Djuric said.

He said that meetings would be organized with political representatives of Serbs in Kosovo in the upcoming days, followed by “a wider meeting with them, probably in presence of Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, where the decisions would be made regarding Pristina’s tariffs against Serbian commodities”.

Vucic announced last month that if the tariffs were not canceled by May 6, when there would be exactly six months since the introduction of tariffs by Kosovo Government, Belgrade would respond with countermeasures.
