Introduction of Commercial Flight Does Not Change Anything, Says EU

The air flights between Belgrade and Pristina, will not change the position of the European Union on the status, which is a matter which should be discussed within the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina, said the EU spokesperson for foreign affairs and security policy, Peter Stano on Tuesday.

“This is a commercial flight and that is the only qualification I would use”, Stano said.

On the other hand, the signing of the letter of intent in Belgrade was criticized by the conservative anti-EU movement Metla [Broom] 2020, which is headed by the Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS).

The renewal of flights between Belgrade and Pristina is “a concession to Albanian secessionists and a victory of those who treat self-proclaimed Kosovo as an independent country”, states the announcement of Metla 2020.

“Trump, (...) Grenell, O'Brien, and NATO Secretary-General [Jens] Stoltenberg have rightly called the signing of the letter of intent with Lufthansa on the reintroduction of flights Belgrade-Pristina, ‘another win’. This is ‘another win’ of those who treat self-proclaimed Kosovo as an independent and sovereign state and who advocate its full international recognition, enabled by the Serbian government”, it is added.

“Following the beginning of the construction of the highway Nis-Pristina-Tirana-Durres, this is yet another unreasonable and damaging government decision which, under pressure from the mentors of Kosovo independence, makes concessions to Albanian secessionists and makes difficult the position of Serbia in the preservation of its territorial integrity”, Metla 2020 announced.
