Kosovo Hires Foreign Advisers for Negotiations with Serbia

The Kosovo team for the dialogue with Serbia has engaged British legal experts Mark Weller and Ben Emmerson to work on the implementation of the negotiation platform adopted by parliament, opposition Social Democrat Party (PSD) MP Frasher Krasniqi said, news agencies reported on Wednesday.

That party supports Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj’s government in some things. Krasniqi published the information about foreign legal experts following talk of  nepotism in Pristina, with leading politicians accused of securing jobs for their relatives in almost all institutions.

Emerson is a prominent British lawyer who served as UN rapporteur on the fight against terrorism and Mark Weller is a professor at Cambridge University with years of experience in resolve disputes.

Also, Emerson works at law offices with Cheri Blair, wife of former British Prime Minister Tony Blair who was advisor to the Serbian government when Aleksandar Vucic was Prime Minister.

The government claims that he provided his services free of charge. The media in Pristina reported that the Kosovo government paid Cheri Blair’s company 500,000 Euro for legal advice on the Special Court for Kosovo Liberation Army (UCK) crimes.

Krasniqi said that Kosovo would engage the best international experts when the negotiations continue.
