KRIIK: 30 June local elections – a failure of Albanian political class

The Coalition for Reforms, Integration and Consolidated Institutions (KRIIK Albania) – part of the Coalition of Domestic Observers – has published its report on the 30 June local elections. Accordingly, these local elections have marked the most negative records for Albania’s local governance and law implementation.

Among the main problems listed by KRIIK are: unilateral political administration with various legal violations, and almost no competition; a series of failures of the political class; the dissolution of local governance as a decentralized power and the impossibility of serious political-institutional dialogue; the undermining of the political counterbalance mechanism; paving the way for electoral rotation of power to be oriented towards autocratic rotation with a “double ticket” of joint central and local powers, etc.
