Leaders of Two Kosovo Opposition Parties Discuss Ousting Government

President of two leading opposition parties in Kosovo, the Democratic Alliance of Kosovo (LDK) and Self-Determination, Isa Mustafa and Albin Kurti, have agreed to resume activities aimed at giving a non-confidence vote to the Kosovo government, news agencies and Kosovo media report.

In its statement, the LDK assessed that elections should be held in Kosovo following a non-confidence vote to the present government or the disbanding of parliament and urged party bodies to “wholeheartedly support early general elections”.

Leader of the Self-Determination Movement Albin Kurti wrote on his Facebook account that it has been agreed at the meeting to “make all necessary preparations for ousting the government”.

At least 61 votes must be secured for a non-confidence vote, and LDK and Self-Determination, with the support of opposition’s Social-Democratic Party of Kosovo (PSD), can count on 56 MP votes.

PSD leader Spend Ahmeti expressed readiness to discuss with LDK and Self-Determination the proposal for the ousting of the government, but without the votes of the Serbian Ticket.

Commenting on the announced cooperation between Self-Determination and LDK, Kosovo Parliament Speaker Kadri Veseli said that they only show their “thirst for votes and power”. He accused the LDK of being a “wagon” of Self-Determination, and Kurti of wanting “to set everything ablaze”.
