Newspapers report that the life of Democratic Party (DP) Chair Lulzim Basha is currently under threat, with Minister of Interior Sandër Lleshaj having allegedly shared the news with the Guard of Republic officer that leads the DP Chair’s security detail in a tête-à-tête meeting the two had on Friday. Reportedly, Lleshaj told him that he had indirect and credible information as to the threats.
The DP sent a letter to the Interior Minister on Saturday asking for more information into the said threats. The DP considered as unprecedented the Interior Minister’s meeting with the Guard of Republic officer in order to share such information. The DP called on the Interior Minister to officially inform them on why he handled this issue in such an unprecedented way and in violation of the law, and to inform them on the seriousness and reliability of the information shared with the commander of the DP Chair’s security detail. “On the contrary, the DP will consider your action as an act of political blackmail and you will be held personally responsible for it,” the DP said.
Talking to reporters on Monday afternoon, Minister Lleshaj said he had no information on the alleged threats and that the whole story was a DP fabrication.
President of the Republic Ilir Meta summoned Head of State Informative Service Helidon Bendo and Guard of Republic Commander Gramos Sako on Monday, in order to be informed about the threats to Basha’s life.
