Official Claims Pristina Expecting Another 19 Recognitions of Independence

Pristina is working on securing new recognition of independence, said the deputy of the Kosovo Foreign Minister Rejhan Vuniqi, but in this work, it encounters the diplomatic counter-offensive of Serbia which wishes to increase the number of countries which have withdrawn the recognition, reports Pristina daily Zeri.

          Vuniqi expressed the expectation that in the course of 2019, another 19 countries would recognize Kosovo.

He added, however, that Kosovo was faced with obstructions occurred, as he said, as a consequence of Serbia’s aggressive lobbying against Kosovo.

Zeri writes that, in 2018, Kosovo, despite an intensive diplomatic activity, did not secure a single new recognition while Serbia is continuously announcing that some countries are withdrawing their previous recognition of independence.

In the past year, Serbia has convinced 12 countries to withdraw the recognition of Kosovo or announce that they will bring the final decision on this only once the result of the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina is known.

Zeri estimates, citing political analysts and the opposition, that this is a consequence of Pristina’s diplomacy, which is, as they state, very weak and disorganized.
