Opposition Demands McAllister and EU Mediation for Serbian crisis

President of the Movement of Free Citizens (PSG) Sergej Trifunovic urged the president of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the European Parliament David McAllister to become the mediator in negotiations for fair elections in Serbia.

In an open letter, Trifunovic urged McAllister to organize a dialogue between representatives of government and opposition in Serbia, with the participation of the civil sector and journalist associations, under the auspices of the European Union, in order to strike a deal about a realistic framework to hold elections in 2020.

Connoisseurs of the situation claim at issue is a form of indirect influence of the Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic on PSG leaders, i.e. an attempt of authorities to draw another opposition party into taking part at the forthcoming elections.

McAllister is scheduled to meet with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic in Belgrade on Monday.
