Palmer Hopes that Agreement between Belgrade and Pristina could be Reached

USA would like the formation of the new Kosovo government as soon as possible and do everything necessary to continue the dialogue with Belgrade, including canceling of tariffs on goods from Serbia and Bosnia-Herzegovina (B-H), the American diplomat Matthew Palmer said in an interview for Voice of America (VoA).

The USA hoped that “this could be resolved quickly”, Palmer, a deputy assistant of the US secretary of state of European and Eurasian issues said.

When asked if after Haradinaj’s resignation there was a higher probability for Serbian and Kosovo President, Aleksandar Vucic and Hashim Thaci respectively, to reach an agreement that would include exchange of territories, Palmer said that the USA were currently focused on “both sides returning to negotiations”, and that once this was done, they could speak about what the two sides could negotiate about.

He said that no one would be forced to do something they could not do, but the USA would like to see negotiations in good faith, moving towards the agreement regarding mutual recognition of Serbia and Kosovo.

When asked if the allegations of some experts in Washington that the draft of the agreement reached by Vucic and Thaci already existed were true and that they were now looking for a way to “sell the agreement to the public”, Palmer said that he did not see “any draft of the agreement or any agreement waiting to be signed”, if such document even existed.
