PM Rama: Political crisis should be solved by Albanians, without foreign

In a televised interview on Wednesday, Prime Minister Edi Rama said the current crisis must be solved by Albanians with no need for foreign help, arguing the possibilities were all in place. “All our friends and partners are on the same clear public line – that the electoral process must go through to the end and that elections must be held on 30 June,” Rama said.

He added that the electoral process would carry through with no unpredictable developments, regardless of what he called the sporadic efforts to hinder it and the persons who would be held responsible for the disruptions caused. Speaking of the latest developments against Commissions of Election Administration Zones (CEAZs) in Kavaja, Shkodra, Tropoja, etc., the Prime Minister said they were “desperate efforts of a group of desperate people who would use any means possible to agitate Albania and feed negativity outside Albania so that European Union membership negotiations are not opened.”

Rama then answered questions on the latest intercepted phone calls published by German newspaper Bild and seemingly incriminating him and other government officials, saying these were productions of opposition-tied prosecutors now dismissed by the vetting process.

“This is all a fabricated story to blackmail, disrupt and throw dirt at Albania,” he said. In regards to the opposition’s demand of early elections and his own dismissal, Rama said elections would be held in their time in 2021 and that, should he dismiss, the country would go through another 30 like the ones have gone by.
