President Meta Attends the Fifth World Holocaust Forum in Israel

President of the Republic Ilir Meta is currently in Israel to attend the Fifth World Holocaust Forum that is being held on the occasion of the Holocaust Remembrance Day and the 75th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp.

On the summit’s eve, Meta was received in a meeting by Israeli President Reuven Rivlin, with the conversation focusing on the example set by the Albanian people by rescuing Jews during WWII, which was described as a unique precedent for the entire world.

Meta said that the two countries shared the same values of freedom and democracy and would stand together in protecting these values from the common threats of terrorism, violent extremisms, and religious fundamentalism.

Speaking in terms of the bilateral ties, Meta said that Albania had much to learn from Israel about technological advances and promoting economic growth. On the margins of the summit, the President met with his Bulgarian counterpart, Rumen Radev.

Meta said that Radev’s visit to Albania in the coming weeks would confirm the excellent relations between the two countries and peoples. Meta praised Bulgaria’s continued support to Albania’s Euro-Atlantic integration, underlining Albania’s belief in Bulgaria’s support for the launching of accession negotiations for Albania at the Zagreb Summit in May. Both sides agreed that the promotion of the Corridor VIII infrastructure project should be at the heart of bilateral co-operation between Albania and Bulgaria.
