President Thaci Asked EU to Treat Kosovo with Dignity

EU should treat Kosovo as an independent and sovereign country, Kosovo President Hashim Thaci said on Thursday, news agencies reported.

In his comment of participation in the online summit between EU and Western Balkans on Wednesday, Thaci said that he demanded liberalization of the visa regime for Kosovo, since they have allegedly fulfilled all conditions for this, and asked start of the process of Kosovo joining to the European Union.

He said to the reporters that he also spoke at the summit about the dialogue with Serbia and supported that this process should end with “overall legally binding agreement that would include mutual recognition between Kosovo and Serbia”.

When asked about the statement of the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell that exchange of the territory would be acceptable for the EU if Belgrade and Pristina should agree on it, Thaci said that Kosovo was “independent and sovereign country” and that the dialogue should be continued with this in mind.
