Priest Violates Isolation Regulations, Calls Faithful To Join Him

Banat Bishop Nikanor has openly called the faithful to go against the measures imposed by the Serbian government to prevent the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.

The bishop called believers to take communion, a practice which has caused a lot of controversy in the past few weeks because hundreds of people are given communion with the same spoon.

In his regular sermon, the bishop called the faithful to come to communion because “holy communion is the best cure and the church is the best hospital”, adding that only God can limit their freedom of movement.

Nikanor told the faithful to obey the law only to the extent that it “is in harmony with God and church rules and Holy Scripture”. He said that anyone who does otherwise is “Godless and a sinner”.

“The temple is the best and most curing hospital and whoever advises you, even if it is the Serbian Patriarch or a bishop, that only five people can be inside the temple, either has no faith or serves something else. Christ our Lord is the best doctor and he gives the best cures through holy communion, that is the best cure,” Bishop Nikanor said just one day after Valjevo Bishop Milutin (71) died of COVID-19 in hospital in Belgrade.
