Prime Minister Edi Rama confirmed in a TV interview last night that today he is expected to present a package of economic measures aimed at ensuring that all employees, whose companies are closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, get their salaries at the end of the month. In addition, the measures will include a relief package for the poorer families and those households still in tents or modular containerized units due to the 26 November 2019 earthquake. He said that the schools will continue to stay closed also after 23 March 2020, and that a special decision on this matter will be published today.
In a Facebook posting yesterday, Rama called on second-tier banks to accept the new measures regarding the circulation of pedestrians that will be introduced as of today, and to organize their working times accordingly. “Let the bankers understand that we are at war… This is not a game but rather a war,” Rama wrote.
The President of the Republic, Ilir Meta, published this morning on his Facebook page an article written by former Deputy Minister of Finance Irena Beqiraj, in which she recommends ways to avoid an economic recession without increasing the public debt. According to Meta, all realistic and constructive proposals and ideas designed to manage the social and economic situation in the best way possible should be welcomed and studied in a responsible and visionary way, in the best interest of the country and its people, having in view also the long-term perspective of the same.
