Russian Ambassador: Moscow Will Support Compromise and Creative Solution for

Moscow will support a compromise and creative solution that Belgrade and Pristina agree on which Russia can support in the UN Security Council, Russian Ambassador in Belgrade Alexander Botsan-Kharchenko said.

He said in an interview to the phantom Tanjug agency that a solution is only possible on the basis of a compromise, that is that an agreement is possible if each side looks for a compromise and takes into account the interests of the other side and if there is well-intentioned international mediation and help.

Asked if demarcation is a compromise, Botsan-Kharchenko said that a creative approach is necessary when a compromise is being sought but that an agreement by Belgrade and Pristina is important because it would mean possible support from the UN Security Council.

He said that the situation in Kosovo is really very worrying and added that he is speaking in a very diplomatic manner in his own name based on previous experience.

He said that Russia is prepared to contribute to renewing the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue but that he believes that is possible only if the international community pressures Pristina.

Botsan-Kharchenko said that UN Security Council resolution 1244 has to be respected and added that Russia won’t accept anything else and does not think that Serbia would do anything else.
