Self-Determination Rejects LDK Proposal, Talks of New Elections

The Self-Determination Movement has rejected the offer of the Democratic Alliance of Kosovo (LDK) on the formation of a new government and stated that they will be in favor of holding new elections in case their demand for increasing the number of ministries is not accepted, the Pristina press reports on Thursday.

MPs of Self-Determination AlbulenaHaxhiu and LiburnAliu said that the offer of that party to LDK is the last one and the last compromise made for the sake of the coalition.

Haxhiu said that new elections are the next, unwelcome step. Self-Determination asked LDK on Tuesday to handle six ministries in the future Kosovo cabinet and to be entitled to nominate the future presidential candidate, after the expiry of the mandate of Hashim Thaci in the spring of 2021.

Leader of Self-Determination Albi Kurti suggested increasing the number of ministries from 12 to 14, whereby the LDK would handle six ministries, Self-Determination five, and minorities would get three.

LDK responded with a counter-proposal for the creation of the ruling coalition, requiring Self-Determination to give up the function of parliament speaker to which GlaukKonjufca has already been appointed. They also want Self-Determination to settle with five ministries and for the LDK to nominate the Kosovo presidential candidate. In that case, the function of parliament speaker would be restituted to Self-Determination, but only once the LDK candidate is elected Kosovo President.
