Serbian FM: Kurti Maneuvers How to Cancel the Tariffs without Really Cancelling

Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti was blackmailing Serbia and playing “maneuvering games”, so he could cancel something, without actually canceling it, Serbian Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic said on Sunday for Radio and Television of Serbia (RTS).

Kosovo Government announced on Thursday that it would cancel a one hundred percent tariff to raw material from Serbia on March 15. Tariffs on other goods should be canceled on April 1, but only for a period of 90 days, with a condition that Serbia should stop the campaign of withdrawing recognition of Kosovo independence and oblige to start removing the trade barriers.

Dacic emphasized that there were some people in Kosovo who did not want any kind of canceling of tariffs, as well as those who believed that the tariffs must be canceled for maintaining good relations with the USA.

“Serbia could have introduced countermeasures to Pristina, but this did not happen”, he said. Dacic stressed that Kurti would like Serbia to stop the campaign of withdrawn recognitions, “and the other day they have rejoiced when Jamaica allegedly recognized Kosovo”.

While speaking about Kosovo’s demand for reciprocity, Dacic said that they “must understand” that they were not equal to Serbia and that thus there could be no reciprocity.

Kosovo Government announced previously that if Serbia should not stop the campaign and not start removing the trade barriers, the reciprocity in the area of trade would be started on April 1.
