Serbian FM: We Continue to Determine Who Recognized Kosovo and Who Did Not

Serbia continues with the process of determining who recognized and who did not recognize Kosovo’s independence, Minister of Foreign Affairs Ivica Dacic said on Thursday.

“[Western countries] think that we should stop [with the campaign aimed at withdrawing of the decision by the countries that have recognized Kosovo’s independence] so that they would not be much annoyed, and that Kosovo should continue to lobby for its independence, that the United States and the United Kingdom could call on all countries to recognize Kosovo at each meeting of the UN Security Council and that we turn out naïve”, Dacic said at a joint press conference with Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad al-Maliki.

Asked to comment on the recent statement about five countries that did not know exactly whether they recognized the independence of Kosovo or not, Dacic said that “Egypt recognized [Kosovo], but they did not have it in writing, as well as Peru; then Oman where their Minister [of Foreign Affairs] said that they did not recognize it, and Kosovo claimed that they did; Guinea-Bissau, which recognized Kosovo, but the prime minister withdrew the recognition and the president dismissed the prime minister and made a statement that they did not withdraw the recognition; and the Dominican Republic, which recognized Kosovo, but they officially confirmed to us that they would respect any agreement between Belgrade and Pristina”, Dacic said.

The listed countries do not vote for Kosovo in the international organizations, but since they once recognized the independence, so far they could not be added to the list of 95 countries that certainly do not recognize Kosovo’s independence, he said.

These five countries “do not vote [for Kosovo], but I cannot count 100 percent that they did not recognize it”, he added.
