Serbian Opposition makes 'Albanian move'? Leader Djilas: Election Boycott Should be Declared Immediately

Serbian Opposition makes 'Albanian move'? Leader Djilas: Election

President of the opposition Party of Freedom and Justice (SSP) Dragan Djilas stated that he does not expect the authorities to meet the opposition’s demands for fair conditions for participation in the elections, and added that this is why he believes that it is necessary to already now come out and clearly say that the opposition will not take part in the next elections.

“The opposition that has gathered in the Alliance for Serbia (SzS) has a unanimous view that under these conditions it cannot take part in the elections. There is no need to wait for anything because Vucic will not meet a single condition.

“RTS is closed, look at what the tabloids are writing, insults in parliament – there is not even the slightest step towards dialogue. Even if something changes it is impossible to correct everything that the government has already done.

“You cannot [take part] in the elections when more than 50 percent of Serbia has heard nothing about you other than accusations that you are thieves when thugs are standing next to the ballot boxes – there is no free elections there. Elections can be only when the conditions are met,” Djilas said.

He said that the parties that take part in such elections, under such conditions, cannot call themselves the opposition.

“You are opposition if you criticize the government and don’t collaborate, and those parties [that have announced that they would take part in the elections] are either in the government or serve to express certain views that benefit the government.

“Our boycott of the elections will succeed because the boycott of Parliament also succeeds. Vucic has no solution for that.”
