Serbian President Congratulation Note to Handke: It’s as if One of Us

President Aleksandar Vucic, on Tuesday, congratulated Austrian writer Peter Handke on being awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature.

Handke was presented with the award on Tuesday in Stockholm.

“Serbia considers you to be a true friend, and I will be free to say, we see your Nobel Prize as if one of us receiving it. Now, along with Ivo Andric, we are celebrating another of our Nobel Prize winners”, states the congratulation note.

Handke has earned the Nobel Prize “for exceptional literary work, knowledge, and creativity” but also for the “indestructible moral traits, for courage and the dignity with which you fight for your ideals of a superb intellectual”, wrote Vucic.
