Serbian President Vucic’s expressed discontent with Palmer’s statements during his visit to the region.

“If everything is as Palmer said - and that was in Kosovo, where I expected him to demand a reduction in Pristina’s expectations and that he would point out to them that a compromise was necessary, I wonder what we are talking about. About at which moment we should recognize independent Kosovo and for them to abolish [the 100% tariffs on Serbian goods]? That looks like a joke to me,” Vucic told Novosti, commenting Palmer’s statement that Serbia cannot join the EU if it doesn’t recognize Kosovo, made during the visit to Pristina.

“I have been following all of Palmer’s statement with great attention and I know that this is a top-level profession and person who does his job directly in accordance with the poly of the State Department and the USA. What surprised me was the fact that Palmer was in essence, both in Pristina and in Skopje, speaking only about Belgrade’s obligations, and some of them are highly disputable. Not at one moment, for example, did he mention Pristina’s real and objective obligations, such as creating the community of Serbian municipalities, which is their indubitable international legal obligation, stemming from the Brussels Agreement and all subsequent annexes to that contract,” Vucic said.

“At the same time, I was surprised by the fact that Palmer was speaking about Serbia’s aggressive campaign, in the sense of withdrawing recognition of Kosovo’s independence, and nowhere did we accept the agreement that we would give up on lobbying, nor did we sign that anywhere. I will remind you that I personally offered for both of us to stop campaigning for recognition and unrecognition, but the Albanians never wanted to discuss that, because, according to them, any talk of stopping the recognition campaign would mean that they are not a state. However, for me it is incredible that both Palmer and the Albanians think that only they have their interests and that the Serbs do not,” he said.
