Swiss Ambassador Shocks Pristina: there is false war veterans in Kosovo
The statement of the Swiss Ambassador to Pristina Jean-Hubert Lebet on the false veterans of the Kosovo Liberation Army (UCK) caused a reaction of the government representatives in Pristina and veterans’ organizations.
In Srbica, where he was opening a water factory, Lebet said that the institutions of Kosovo were paying false war veterans and that the international community had to finance for them key projects for the needs of citizens.
He said that it was not normal for Kosovo to have money, but to abuse it, especially by paying false veterans.
Kosovo was in the previous period shaken by several scandals in which a large number of people was discovered who had enjoyed various benefits intended to former members of the UCK, even though they had never taken part in the war.
President of the Association of War Veterans of Kosovo Nasim Haradinaj, on the occasion of the statement of Ambassador Lebet, said that the false veterans were primarily in Switzerland.
Haradinaj said that in Kosovo there were indeed false veterans but that the Ambassador had abused the situation, instead of helping Pristina to identify them, primarily from the circle of those Kosovo Albanians who had a Swiss passport.
Kosovo Parliament Speaker Kadri Veseli also reacted to the statement of the Swiss diplomat saying that precisely in the place in which the water factory was opened, there were many real fighters who fought with the UCK.
