Thaci: Both US Republicans, Democrats Back Kosovo

Pristina enjoys the support of the US from both sides of its political scene, Kosovo President Hashim Thaci said on Wednesday, news agency Beta reported.

After meeting senators Ron Johnson, a Republican from Wisconsin, and Chris Murphy, a Democrat from Connecticut, Thaci said Kosovo had the US “unanimous support.”

In his post on Facebook, he also said that Pristina would also enjoy that support during the resumption of the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina on the normalization of relations.

The talks have been on hold since last November after Kosovo introduced the 100% tariffs on goods from Serbia and Bosnia-Herzegovina. Both the US and the European Union had unsuccessfully asked Pristina to revoke the decision on charges.

“I had an important meeting with Kosovo’s friends, senators Ron Johnson, and Chris Murphy. The US support is unanimous both from the Republicans and Democrats. Our partnership with the US has been and remains crucial in any process involving Kosovo. That will also be the case during the dialogue which will end in Serbia’s recognition of Kosovo’s independence and Pristina’s membership to NATO, EU, and UN,” Thaci wrote.
