Two thousand Muslim believers file a petition for re-opening of mosques

2000 Muslim believers have already signed an online petition asking the Albanian Muslim Community (AMC) to allow the re-opening of mosques under strict hygienic/physical distancing measures.

They motivated their request with the fact that all social and cultural activities, with the exception of schools, will have resumed after 18 May 2020. In addition, they pointed to the believers’ need to frequent the mosques, in view of the ongoing holy month of Ramadan. They also said that it is the AMC’s duty to guarantee the mosques’ re-opening also in view of the similar initiatives undertaken by its counterparts abroad, such as the Muslim Community in Germany that has pressed for and gained the re-opening of mosques on 9 May 2020.

This was the second public request addressed to the AMC for the mosques’ re-opening by Muslim believers, the first being issued on 22 April 2020.
