U.S. Ambassador Hosts Albania's 'Elite' and Unveils Priorities of

In an event held on Thursday, the United States Ambassador to Albania, Yuri Kim, unveiled the priorities of her term in office. She said that her first priority was “to help Albania become a more capable NATO Ally and a stronger bastion of security”.

The second one would be to continue “to strongly support Albania’s democratic development,” as “strengthening democratic institutions and practices will strengthen Albania’s candidacy for the EU”. “Third, we want to increase business opportunities for both American and Albanian companies.

There is much-untapped potential in Albania, as a producer, consumer, and innovator,” she said. She said these priorities were inextricably connected, and the connection between them lied in Albania rooting out corruption, prosecuting organized crime and firmly establishing the rule of law. She said that Albania has the opportunity to make astonishing transformations in 2020.

The U.S. Ambassador had a busy day yesterday meeting with the prosecutors of the Special Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office (SPAK), which whom she exchanged views on continued U.S. technical assistance as they tackle organized crime and take the first steps to establish the NBI, and with members of the High Prosecutorial Council, commending them for laying the groundwork for the SPAK’s establishment and for their ongoing recruitment efforts for new prosecutors.

“She emphasized the U.S. commitment to supporting their work governing the prosecution system as Albania expands its efforts to go after high-level corruption,” the U.S. Embassy said in a Facebook post in regards to the visit.
