Vucic and Borrell: Serbia Cannot Continue Towards EU without Kosovo Solution
Without a solution in the dialogue with Pristina, Serbia’s European prospects will not be certain, stated Serbian President AleksandarVucic on Friday, conveying the essence of the conversation he had with EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell, in Belgrade.
At a joint press conference, he thanked Borrell for the idea to appoint his envoy for the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina and to personally get involved in the process.
Vucic said that he told Borrell that two or three years ago there was a chance of an agreement with Pristina, but that any idea of a compromise solution was then “just about killed.”
Vucic expressed his conviction that it would be actually Berlin and not Brussels that would have the main say in the resolution of the Kosovo issue because a person with great German support would be appointed the EU special envoy.
“I think that I already know who will be the EU representative for the dialogue (between Belgrade and Pristina) and probably for Bosnia and Herzegovina. It will be someone who has great support from Berlin, and who has influence in Berlin. Regardless of who the person is, Berlin will through Brussels de facto have the main say, which is not easy for us. And it will be very, very difficult,” Vucic said.
