Vucic in UN: Durable Solution for Kosovo Required

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said in New York on Thursday that a durable solution for Kosovo must be found and that it must be reached so that neither party gets everything but that they both get enough, Belgrade media report.

“It is with courage and with realism that we strive to find a durable solution (for the Kosovo problem). No one wants a solution more than Serbia does”, Vucic told the UN General Assembly, reiterating the same argument all over again, which (although he is reluctant to admit it) actually implies the partition of Kosovo along ethnic lines.

“We fight for a durable solution and we expect the world to understand our positions and arguments, not just to support the opposite side as they did between 1999 and 2008.

He added that, by its unilateral moves, such as introducing custom duties on Serbian goods, Pristina has made everything more difficult, but that Serbia responded with moderation and did not introduce counter-measures.

Vucic also spoke of the importance of economic cooperation in the region and of infrastructural ties.

He said that, on its path to the EU, Serbia maintains a partnership with western countries, increasingly intensive cooperation with the US and that it is proud of its cooperation with Russia and China.

At the end of his speech, Vucic uttered a sentence in Serbian: “The Balkans to the people of the Balkans. Long Live Serbia”.
