Vucic: Serbia to Remain Militarily Neutral

Serbia will remain a militarily neutral country, President Aleksandar Vucic stated on Monday.

“Serbia is a neutral country. And, I am certain and I believe that NATO, which always says that this is Serbia’s choice, would perhaps still like to see Serbia [as a member] more than some other countries in the region which rushed to join the Alliance”, said Vucic in an address at the opening of a conference commemorating the 20th anniversary of the air-strikes on FR Yugoslavia.

He repeated that Serbia did not hide that it did not wish to join NATO, but that it did want good and decent relations with the Alliance.

“Serbia wishes to preserve freedom, independence, its sky, and land, with its own Serbian army. We believe in the strength of the Serbian army”, Vucic said.

He reminded that Serbia had, 20 years ago, suffered too much hardship so as to be able to forget.

“It is our obligation to forgive, but we can never forget”, he underlined.

Vucic said that at the time Serbia “was not without fault”, and also that the Serbian policy “had not always done the right and most wise thing” [sic], but that it certainly did not in any way deserve the NATO attack.

“When we talk about that, it is clear why even to this day there is a great pain among the Serbs who do not understand why this was done”, Vucic said.
