Serbia cannot recognize the independence of Kosovo if there is no previous compromise solution in the negotiations between Belgrade and Pristina, stated Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic on Friday.
During talks with US senators Chris Murphy (D) and Ron Johnson (R), Vucic said that Serbia’s position on the issue of Kosovo is not at all easy.
“The Albanians don’t want to admit that their state will never be consolidated without Serbia. And Serbia cannot recognize independence unless there is a compromise solution,” Vucic said.
“The senators pointed out that they would like to change some things in the domain of rule of law. I listened to them and said that there are many things that we can and must fix,” he said.
Johnson and Murphy stated that both the Democrats and Republicans in the US support the dialogue between Serbia and Kosovo and that they will support the agreement that the two sides achieve.
