Road accidents increase 6.8% in the first half of the year; Tirana leads

Road accidents in the country increased in June, while their number in the first half of the year expanded by 6.8% compared to the same period a year earlier.
Preliminary INSTAT data show a jump in the sixth month of the year, where the consequences in terms of injuries and loss of life were also higher.
During June, 132 accidents were recorded, killing or injuring 186 people, up from 107 accidents and 140 injured in the same month of 2025.
In the period January-June 2026, 679 road accidents were recorded, up from 636 a year earlier.
The number of people killed and injured reached 952, compared to 883 in the first half of 2025.
According to INSTAT, 93.9% of accidents recorded in June occurred as a result of driver behavior. The 35–44 age group accounted for the largest share of drivers involved in accidents, with 28% of the total.
Tirana recorded the highest number of accidents in the country during the six-month period, with 277 cases and 345 people killed or injured. It was followed by Lezha with 74 accidents and Vlora with 67.
One in four accidents occurred between 19:00 and 24:00, with Tuesday being the day with the highest number of cases, at 18.9% of the total. Thursday recorded the lowest incidence, at 7.6%.
INSTAT emphasizes that the data is preliminary and subject to update.
