SPAK has decided to extend the investigation period against former Deputy Prime Minister Belinda Balluku, who is being investigated for suspicions of corruption, money laundering and violation of equality in tenders, by another three months.
Sources at the Special Prosecution Office confirmed to News24 that on Wednesday, Erald Elezi, former director of KESH, and Gentian Gjyli, former director general of the Albanian Road Authority, both considered close to Balluk, were summoned to SPAK. According to the same sources, they are expected to be informed of the decision to postpone the investigation.
The deadline has been extended by three months, after special prosecutors argued that further investigative actions are needed to fully clarify the case, which is considered complex due to the high number of tenders being verified.
Balluku is a defendant by SPAK in the tender case for the construction of the Llogara tunnel, while she also continues to be under investigation for the tender procedures for the lots of the Tirana Grand Ring Road.
The former Minister of Infrastructure has also been charged with corruption and money laundering. As part of the investigation, SPAK has also ordered the seizure of a villa in Dhërmi, which the prosecution suspects is linked to hidden assets.
Currently, two security measures are in force against Balluk: a ban on leaving the country and a suspension from exercising functions.
