Former socialist minister announces candidacy for Vlora Municipality

Former socialist minister Arben Malaj has announced his candidacy as an independent for mayor of Vlora in the 2027 local elections. 
Through a post on Facebook, Malaj said that the decision comes after requests and support received from citizens, friends and well-wishers in Vlora.

In his platform, Malaj states that he aims to create a civic movement that will unite intellectuals, activists, small businesses, and civil society.

Good day - Yes! I will run in 2027 as an independent for mayor of Vlora.
This is the answer to every supporter and well-wisher, but also to every citizen who asks me more and more.
I thank everyone,
even those who hesitate
or are determined to vote against.
This will be the democracy of Vlora.
Here are some of the advantages of running as an independent for the Municipality of Vlora:
1. Complete Freedom and Impartiality
Lack of Reporting to the "Masters":
I have no obligation to serve the interests of political clans in Tirana or to make compromises with corrupt names within the party lists.
Decisions will only take into account the interest of the residents of Vlora.
Independent Decision-Making: I am not obliged to implement illegal orders from prime ministers and oligarchs, who harm the local community on behalf of the power of the CM.
