Footage of a mother and her autistic son at Thursday's protest, as they were attacked with tear gas and pepper spray, went viral and was widely criticized online.

The Network of Organizations of Persons with Disabilities has reacted with concern to the footage, calling on institutions to clarify the circumstances of the event.

The network emphasizes in the statement that people with disabilities experience serious consequences from such attacks, such as those at the protest in front of the Parliament.

We express our deep concern about the incident that occurred during today's protest, where a mother and her disabled son were exposed, as we understand from the video, to pepper spray and were put in a situation that jeopardized their health and safety.

We call on the responsible institutions to fully clarify the circumstances of this event and to guarantee that human rights, the principle of proportionality, and the protection of the most vulnerable groups are respected in any intervention.

People with disabilities, especially those with autism or sensory sensitivities, may experience much more severe physical and emotional consequences from using such devices.

This case reminds us of the need for structures responsible for order and security to be trained to identify and protect persons with disabilities in such situations, taking measures to avoid any action that could endanger their health, safety or life.

Meanwhile, this grandmother and this orphan boy live in miserable conditions of poverty and without access to proper services.
