Christopher Nolan's "The Odyssey" conquers cinemas, $264 million

Renowned director Christopher Nolan's new film, "The Odyssey," has started with tremendous success in world cinemas, grossing $264 million during its first weekend of release.

The film marked the biggest international debut of Nolan's career, exceeding industry expectations. In North America alone, the production grossed $124.5 million, ranking among the highest-grossing openings of 2026.

The success of "The Odyssey" is considered even more special due to the fact that the film is an adaptation of one of the most important works of ancient literature, while it has an R rating, which limits a portion of the young audience.

The project has also surpassed the initial debut of "Oppenheimer," another Nolan film that ultimately managed to gross around $975 million in global box office.

With a reported budget of around $250 million, “The Odyssey” is also the first feature film shot entirely with IMAX cameras, a choice the director used to deliver a more grandiose visual experience.

Industry analysts predict that the film has the potential to surpass $1 billion in global box office receipts, and is expected to remain among the most watched productions in the coming weeks.
