Statement by Serbian minister, former KLA fighter in protest: Silence is not prudence, but betrayal

Statement by Serbian minister, former KLA fighter in protest: Silence is not

Former Kosovo Liberation Army fighter Mecan Zotaj spoke at today's protest, focusing on the lack of an official stance from Albanian institutions following the statements of the Serbian minister, who said that if she had lived during the time of Slobodan Milosevic, she would have "ethnically cleansed Kosovo of Albanians."

Zotaj described this statement as an open call for genocide and accused the government and Parliament of Albania of silence, demanding the adoption of a resolution to officially condemn it.

Former KLA fighter, Mecan Zotaj: Statement on the criminal silence of the Albanian government and Parliament in the face of the genocidal statement of the Serbian minister. The Serbian minister spoke publicly without shame, without shame. She said: “If I were in the time of Milosevic, I would have ethnically cleansed Kosovo of Albanians.”

This is not a casual statement, this is not a slip of the tongue, this statement is not a personal opinion. It is an open call for genocide. This is a threat to the existence of an indigenous people in Kosovo.

It is a return to the mindset that brought massacres, murders, displacements and mass graves in Kosovo. And what did Albania do? It was silent! Albania's silence is a double insult. The parliament did not make any resolution, the government, which claims to protect national interests, did not make any official protest. No joint statement, no call for international condemnation, no call for the words to be withdrawn.

A silence that is not prudence, is not a strategy, but betrayal. The Constitution clearly states that the Republic of Albania protects the interests of Albanians. She has insulted every Albanian. She is insulting the victims of genocide, the survivors. She has insulted every Albanian. She is insulting the victims of genocide, the survivors and you who sit in Parliament, keep quiet. Albanians are not foreigners in Kosovo. Kosovo is not a province, but an independent state.

We do not seek revenge, nothing that violates peace, but a resolution, an official word and an act that says that this statement is unacceptable and Albania condemns it. The resolution is a duty. And if you are not able to do even this, accept that you are not able to keep your duty. If you do not react, then you are also complicit, not in genocide, but in silence before genocide.
