MEP warns Rama: EU is following the money, there will be consequences

The European People's Party (EPP) MEP, Tomáš Zdechovský, has expressed strong criticism of the Albanian government, stating that the European Union will not accept a country that, according to him, does not guarantee the fight against corruption and transparent elections.

Invited to the show "Kafe Shqeto" on SYRI TV, Zdechovský said that the European Parliament mission, which he led in Albania for budgetary control, has created a clear picture of the situation in the country.

"We have a clear picture of the situation in Albania. It cannot continue like this. Corruption will never be part of the European Union and Mr. Rama should know that, if he abuses power in an undemocratic manner, Albania will not move towards EU membership," the MEP said.

According to him, the European Union is closely monitoring developments in Albania and expects the electoral processes to take place according to democratic standards.

Zdechovský warned that if there are no transparent elections, there will be consequences.

"Our position is very clear. If Mr. Rama does not guarantee transparent elections, there will be consequences, especially for him and his family," he declared.

Asked by the moderator what he meant by "consequences for him and his family", the MEP claimed that it was about monitoring financial movements.

"We have noticed that he uses family members to transfer money abroad. We are following the trail of this money. It is a clear message and he will understand it very well," Zdechovský said.
