Spain's triumph in the 2026 World Cup has also received high praise from international media. The American magazine Sports Illustrated has included Luis de la Fuente's team in the list of the 10 best national teams in World Cup history.

Despite a surprise draw in the first match against Cape Verde, the Spanish dominated the rest of the tournament and ended it with the trophy in their hands. They conceded only one goal throughout the competition, setting a record for a world champion team.

In its analysis, the magazine highlights the strength of Spain's midfield, led by Rodri and Pedri, the contribution of Marc Cucurella on the left wing, as well as the security provided by Pau Cubarsi and Aymeric Laporte in defence. Goalkeeper Unai Simon also received praise, having finished the tournament with seven clean sheets.

However, the legendary Brazil of 1970, widely considered the best national team in football history, continues to top the rankings. Behind them are West Germany of 1974 and the 1998 champion France, while Spain of 2010 holds fourth place.

According to Sports Illustrated, the list of the 10 best national teams in World Cup history is this:

Brazil (1970)
West Germany (1974)
France (1998)
Spain (2010)
Hungary (1954)
Brazil (1958)
