Albanian journalism is in mourning after the passing of journalist Enrik Mehmeti from Vlorë, who lost his life at the age of 40 after an accident that occurred on Saturday evening in the Porto Nova area, in Zvërnec.

Mehmeti was one of the most well-known journalists in Vlora, building a career spanning over 20 years in reporting on the most important events in the coastal city. Over the years, he covered developments in news, politics, culture and sports, while standing out for his on-the-ground reporting and commitment to issues affecting the community.

His journey into journalism began very early. In 1997, when he was only 11 years old, he was hired as a translator in the "Alba" operation camp, where Italian forces were stationed in Albania to help restore order after the unrest. This experience became the first step towards the profession that he would practice with passion for more than two decades.

Over the years, Enrik Mehmeti became a reliable voice of information in Vlora, earning the respect of his colleagues and the trust of citizens for his professionalism and correctness in reporting.

On Saturday evening, he lost his life in a four-wheeled motorcycle accident in Porto Novo, Zvërnec. According to preliminary data, it is suspected that he lost control of the vehicle, which overturned several times. The police are working to fully clarify the circumstances of the incident.
