Protests in Ukraine after Zelensky dismisses defense minister

Protests have erupted in several cities in Ukraine following President Volodymyr Zelensky's decision to dismiss Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov.

In Kiev, dozens of citizens, mostly young, took to the streets with banners "Hands off Fedorov" and "Stop sabotaging the victory," accusing the president of a wrong decision.

Zelensky has not yet given an official explanation for the departure of the 35-year-old, who was considered a reformer and had been praised for fighting corruption and modernizing the military through technology and data analysis.

According to international media, the dismissal is related to ongoing tensions between Fedorov and the army's commander-in-chief, Oleksandr Syrskyi, as well as criticism of the pace of reforms in the mobilization system.

Fedorov himself stated that Syrskyi was "not willing to talk openly about the problems" and accused him of focusing on internal conflicts, instead of focusing on the fight against Russia.

The Ukrainian parliament is expected to approve the appointment of Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko as Fedorov's successor at the head of the Ministry of Defense.
