Environmental massacre in Sevran, Skrapar, the company flattens the forest

An environmental massacre is taking place on Mount Sevran in Skrapar, where a company licensed to exploit the forest is suspected of indiscriminately cutting down hundreds of trees, violating legal procedures that regulate the administration of the forest fund.

Footage obtained by the show Fiks Fare shows stacks of logs placed along the road, with lengths reaching up to 10 meters, while entire areas in the area are seen stripped of trees. The company's workers continue cutting down the forest, but as soon as they notice the presence of the drone, they leave the area.

During the conversation with journalists, two workers who carried out the felling of trees admit that they did not see any marked trees before the felling. They state that they only know the name of the owner of the company, Sokol, while one of them indicates that he has worked in the forestry sector for years and that in other cases the trees that needed to be felled were previously identified by the authorities.

"I've worked in forests all my life. When I worked in Korça, the trees were marked. Here we are cutting them ourselves and we have tried to leave some uncut," he says.

The owner of the company also appears before the journalists, who declares that he has a regular use permit. But when asked who determined the trees that had to be cut down and where the marked trees are located, he initially claims that the procedures were followed, but then fails to show any marked trees on the ground. At the end of the conversation, he requests the filming to stop.

Even the director of the forestry service at the Skrapar Municipality admits that the trees have not been marked, although this is a mandatory procedure before any felling. According to him, the company is equipped with a permit for cutting firewood, while the area inspector has carried out an inspection, but has not yet submitted the relevant report.

The director admitted that the tree marking should have been done and promised to immediately go to the field to verify the situation and take action against the company if violations are found.

After journalists' interest, the mayor of Skrapar was also made aware of the case, who promised to fully verify the procedures and take administrative measures against any person or institution that has violated the law, accepting institutional responsibility for the situation created./ TCH
