Messi doesn't stop, sets another historic record at the World Cup

Lionel Messi continues to make history in world football. The Argentina captain set another World Cup record by becoming the oldest player to take to the field in a World Cup semi-final.

In the match against England, Messi played at the age of 39 years and 21 days, adding another achievement to his extraordinary career.

The record was set in the semi-final in Atlanta, where Argentina secured a place in the grand final against Spain after defeating England 2-1. Spain had earlier booked their place in the final by defeating France 2-0.

A record-breaking World Cup
Messi has been the absolute protagonist in this edition of the World Cup. Before the semi-finals, he had scored eight goals and provided two assists, leading the race for the "Golden Boot".

His tournament began in spectacular fashion with a hat-trick against Algeria in his 200th match for Argentina. At 38 years and 357 days, he became the oldest player to score a hat-trick in World Cup history.

He then found the net twice against Austria, scored against Jordan and also scored in the qualifying stages against Cape Verde and Egypt.

Thanks to his goals against Austria, Messi surpassed Miroslav Klose to become the all-time leading scorer in World Cup history. In addition, he holds the record for the most appearances in the competition's history.

Not only goals, but also assists.
Even when he doesn't score, Messi continues to make the difference.

In the quarter-final against Switzerland, he assisted Alexis Mac Allister from a corner kick, taking his tally to 10 assists in the World Cup, more than any other player since 1966, when assists began to be officially recorded.

His statistics in the knockout stages are equally impressive. In the last eight knockout matches leading up to the semi-finals, Messi has been involved in 13 goals, with 7 goals and 6 assists, a new record in the last 60 years.

Argentina is now one step away from defending the title won in Qatar in 2022, while Messi continues to lead the "Albiceleste" towards another final, proving that even on the eve of his 40th birthday he remains one of the most decisive footballers in the world.
