Criminal amnesty/ Over 1,400 convicts benefit, 553 leave cells

The police have issued an official announcement on the start of the implementation of the criminal amnesty. According to the final data reported by the Penitentiary Institutions, 553 convicted persons received immediate release, while 863 convicted persons received a reduction in their sentence.

"The implementation of the amnesty in the system of executions of criminal decisions is successfully completed.

In accordance with Law No. 57/2026, "On granting amnesty", the General Directorate of Prisons successfully completed today the process of implementing the criminal amnesty in all Institutions for the Execution of Criminal Decisions (IEVP), after undertaking all administrative and legal procedures necessary to guarantee a uniform implementation throughout the country. 

The process was carried out in full coordination with all penitentiary institutions, rigorously respecting the criteria and procedures set out in the law.

According to the final data reported by the Penitentiary Institutions, 553 convicted persons benefited from immediate release, while 863 convicted persons benefited from a reduction in sentence, in accordance with the provisions of Law No. 57/2026.

The implementation of the amnesty in all penitentiary institutions was completed without any problems, guaranteeing order, security and full respect for legal procedures. The structures of the General Directorate of Prisons and Penitentiary Institutions were engaged throughout the process to ensure a correct and transparent administration of each case.
