Zhupa: Rama is defending concreting, not protected areas

Democratic Party MP Ina Zhupa has accused the majority of avoiding discussion on the repeal of Law 21/2024, despite the European Parliament's request for its review.

In an interview for the "Task Force" show on Syri TV, Zhupa stated that the request has not been included in the agenda for discussions for two months, describing this as an attempt to avoid a clash between obligations to the EU and the interests of strategic investment projects.

According to her, the government is in a difficult situation, as on the one hand it must implement the European Parliament resolution, while on the other hand it aims to maintain the possibility of developing projects in protected areas.

Zhupa accused Prime Minister Edi Rama that the legal changes were made to suit private projects.

"Clearly, this was also the debate today in the Committee on Culture, Tourism and Diaspora. They have been refusing to introduce it or discuss it for two months because they are in an impasse. On the one hand, the European Parliament has requested it, has requested it with a resolution, and they have taken responsibility in the Albanian Parliament that they will implement the European Parliament resolution, which means they will have to repeal Law 21/2024.

And on the other hand, they have this book that is more important, it is the book of Edi Rama's promises to his builders and the massacre of concreting with strategic investments in Albania without asking about protected areas. And faced with this impasse, which on the one hand they have an obligation from the European Parliament, there are 45 days of protests, it is a two-month law, today exactly two months, from May 14 deposited, they choose not to discuss it at all, because they cannot vote against it because it is directly related to the European Union. I showed them today and I am showing it a little here, this is a joke. These are all villa complexes that are planned to be built in a protected area.

And if law 21/2024 is repealed, these things cannot be done. I am saying this because this is the issue of the day today, but like this here we have protected areas, I don't know if it can be distinguished, we have protected areas throughout Albania that are villa complexes that would be prohibited if it weren't for law 21/2024. And they have called it the horizontal dimension, because it is filled with villas and not with towers like the vertical dimension of Tirana, of Edi Rama and the studio is Archea Associati" , said Zhupa.
