Anti-drug operation in Valencia, authorities dismantle a network with Albanian

A large-scale police operation in the province of Valencia, Spain, has led to the dismantling of a criminal network involved in the cultivation of cannabis, which, according to authorities, also involved a group of Albanian citizens collaborating with people of Spanish nationality.

During the operation, 14 people were arrested, while police dismantled three indoor cannabis plantations, including a high-tech plantation with 2,763 plants in an advanced stage of cultivation. Around 3,000 cannabis plants, firearms and other equipment used for criminal activity were also seized. Three of the arrested have been remanded in custody.

According to investigators, the investigation began in January after several Albanian citizens were spotted transporting equipment for indoor cannabis cultivation in the Xirivella area. Verifications revealed that some of them had been investigated previously, in 2023, for similar activities.

Authorities said the group used high security measures to avoid detection. Members moved around in rented vehicles, which they constantly changed, making frequent trips between Murcia and Girona to expand their activities and identify new cultivation sites.

The arrested are accused of drug trafficking, electricity fraud and participation in a criminal group. One of them was wanted by Spanish justice for the same criminal offense.
