The trial on the merits for Ilir Meta and Monika Kryemadhi is postponed

This Thursday's session at the Special Court against Corruption and Organized Crime (SCOC) for the trial on the merits against former President Ilir Meta and MP Monika Kryemadhi has been concluded. The court decided to postpone the session, while the process will continue on July 29, at 10:00.

During the hearing, Monika Kryemadhi raised a number of allegations of procedural violations, stating that she had not been provided with all the evidence on which the charges were based. She requested the minutes of the phone examination, claiming that they were missing from the file and that this violated her right to full and equal protection.

The Chief Justice also said that some of the submitted files do not open and demanded to know by what decision the phone examination was conducted, who conducted it and on what date, emphasizing that the accusation is based mainly on the messages extracted from that device.

On the other hand, SPAK prosecutor Sotir Kllapi stated that all the expert reports and minutes of the examination of the phones are in the relevant case files and have been made available to the court. He explained that the phone in question was found in Fatime Kryemadhi's apartment and that the prosecution cannot confirm whether it was in Monika Kryemadhi's use.

Kryemadhi's defense also opposed the procedures followed by SPAK, claiming that it was not notified of the expert examination and that there is still evidence that has not been made available to it.

In her statements, Kryemadhi described the accusation as “sexist,” objecting to the way her role was presented in the file and denying that she had any communications with Ilir Meta regarding the Adrian Shatku case. She also raised allegations of a biased investigation, mentioning other names that, according to her, were not questioned by the prosecution.

At the end of the session, the Court decided to postpone the consideration of the case to July 29, at 10:00, when the trial on the merits is expected to continue.
