Where is the heat wave hitting hardest in Europe?

The heat wave that has swept across Europe is hitting the southern countries of the continent hardest, where several cities and tourist areas are facing record temperatures, forest fires and emergency measures.

In Portugal , one of the most affected areas is the northwest of the country, where fires have created large clouds of smoke that have been detected by European satellites. Residents of some areas have been forced to evacuate due to the spread of the flames and the high risk.

In Greece , the regions most affected are those frequently affected by summer fires, where thousands of residents and tourists face extreme temperatures and smoke pollution. According to a study by the European Environment Agency and Eurofound, Greece ranks among the countries with the highest fire and smoke reports in Europe.

The BPO also faces severe consequences from high temperatures and fires, while authorities have increased safety measures due to the extreme conditions.

In other parts of Europe, the main risk is not only temperatures, but also flooding. In Austria and Slovenia , a significant proportion of citizens have reported damage or consequences from intense rainfall and flooding.

According to experts, the most exposed cities are those in Southern Europe, especially urban and tourist areas where high temperatures, lack of greenery, and building density increase the impact of heat waves.

The study shows that the consequences depend not only on where people live, but also on housing conditions, income and the ability of communities to protect themselves from extreme climate events.
