The community of Nikaj-Mërtur requests documents for interventions in the Mërtur River

Residents of the Nikaj-Mërtur community have requested from state institutions the provision of complete documentation regarding the project being implemented on the Mërtur River, in the Lekbibaj Administrative Unit of the Tropoja Municipality.

In a request for information addressed to KESH, the National Agency for Natural Resources, the Municipality of Tropoja, the National Environment Agency and the Ministry of Tourism and Environment, the community seeks to be acquainted with the legal and technical basis on which the project "Protection with mountain dams of the Lekbibaj Stream (Mërtur) - Lot I" has been approved and is being implemented.

Residents are demanding, among other things, the Environmental Impact Assessment report, environmental decisions, the hydrotechnical project, hydrological and hydraulic studies, as well as permits and authorizations for interventions in the riverbed.

The community also requires documentation related to public consultation, approvals from institutions responsible for the environment and waters, the project implementation contract, the estimate, and the source of financing.

According to the community, the requested documents are of public interest as they relate to environmental protection, preservation of the river ecosystem, hydraulic safety, and the impact that interventions may have on the area.
