Iran and Qatar resume maritime trade after five-month hiatus

Iran and Qatar have officially resumed maritime cargo transport, ending a disruption that lasted about five months due to the conflict in the Persian Gulf.

The news was confirmed by Iran's commercial attaché in Doha, who announced that commercial shipping between the two countries has resumed after coordination with Qatari authorities.

The resumption of maritime trade follows a temporary agreement reached last month between Tehran and Washington that temporarily ended military clashes and paved the way for the normalization of the movement of goods in the region. However, maritime traffic in the Persian Gulf remains sensitive due to the security situation.

Shipping has resumed between the Iranian port of Dayyer and the port of Al Ruwais in Qatar, two important points for regional trade. During the conflict, the port of Dayyer was hit several times, causing the suspension of activity.

Signs of recovery in trade exchanges had also appeared at the end of June, when Iranian authorities announced that export goods had resumed customs clearance at the United Arab Emirates' Jebel Ali port, the largest commercial port in the Persian Gulf.

The resumption of the flow of goods between Iran, Qatar and other countries in the region is considered a step towards economic normalization after months of tensions and military conflict.
